We as humans often experience beauty and deepen our wisdom most through contrast. In poetry, as in art, a major part of achieving contrast is the harmonizing of light and dark – a principle and approach known in art as notan. Join poet JC Wayne to explore creating a contrast poem inspired by Gallery 46 artist Kari Ganoung Ruiz’s plein air painting, Whirlpool Basin. To support our writing, we’ll explore examples of contrast poems, practice warm-up writing prompts, discover quick ways to connect with our natural ability to create and move comfortably in the harmonizing space of contrast where opposites meet and enjoy the opportunity to share our work with each other. A special bonus: Our Gallery 46 muse artist, Kari – known for her beautifully luminescent and masterful interplays of light and dark – will be at the workshop to share her inspiration and plein air process in creating Whirlpool Basin and to answer your questions.
Please verify with the organizer that events are taking place in light of recommended social distancing measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
