Lisa Soros: “Evolving Creative Neural Networks”
Lisa Soros is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Innovation at Champlain College. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Artificial Life. (Also appearing at the Northeast Regional Conference on Complex Systems (NERCCS) on 4/5)
Maureen McElaney: “Digital Discrimination: Cognitive Bias in Machine Learning”
Maureen McElaney works from her home in Burlington, Vermont as a Developer Advocate for IBM Watson Data Platform. She founded Girl Develop It Burlington in 2013 and has been co-organizing tech conferences for years including Burlington Ruby, UX Burlington, Offline Camp, and Vermont Code Camp. She is an Executive Fellow to the Burlington Chapter of US Ignite. And she’s passionate about building applications that make developers lives easier and increases joy.
Kristin McClure is a graduate student at the University of Vermont in Data Science and Complex Systems, with a focus on machine learning and data visualization. Her undergraduate research was at the University of Pennsylvania in economics. For the majority of her professional career, she worked at IBM, most recently leading a team focused on strategic planning and data analytics.

We will also have a 30-minute panel discussion about inclusivity in STEM, which and will address topics in education, workplace culture, and career development featuring a mix of educators, practitioners, and administrators as speakers, including Dr. Linda Schadler, Dean of the University of Vermont College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.
