Webinar: A Militant Suffragist: The Story of Louisine Waldron Elder Havemeyer’s Role in the Women’s Suffrage Movement

August 26 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Webinar

In celebration of the centennial anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing women the right to vote, join Associate Curator Carolyn Bauer for an inspiring conversation discussing Louisine Waldron Elder Havemeyer’s (American, 1855-1929) contributions to the women’s suffrage movement. A renowned art collector, philanthropist, and mother to Shelburne Museum’s founder, Electra Havemeyer Webb, Louisine Havemeyer’s active role in the progressive National Woman’s Party—which included public speaking engagements, organizing fundraising art exhibitions, protesting at the White House, and imprisonment—aided in the success of the long fought battle to secure women’s basic rights in America.

If time allows, Carolyn will also highlight a selection of works from Shelburne Museum’s permanent collection created by women artists.
