Please come share your story and hear others’ stories at our Legislative Day in Montpelier, 10 a.m.-noon, Weds., April 12.
Come to share your experiences of Vermont’s criminal justice system, hear updates of what bills are still in play and what you can do, and enjoy watching some instructive role-playing about how to talk to busy legislators. In Room 11; all welcome.
Unfair? Outrageous? Heartening? What’s your story?
M was sent to jail for many months as a first-time non-violent offender, while her (ex-)boyfriend, who had a prior conviction, got a lesser charge.
C has been in and out of prison for years, “because I’m an addict and I can’t get any help for my addiction.”
B was released to his daughter’s house in the Northeast Kingdom, miles away from the programming he was required to attend, and then sent back to jail because he lacked the transportation to get to the programming.
The greatest obstacle to changing the system is the public’s lack of awareness. You can help by sharing your story and hearing others’ stories. Come to VCJR’s Legislative Day April 12, and bring a friend. All are welcome!
