Making the Justice System Work With Data

November 12 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

First Congregational Church UCC of Burlington

The Vermont Racial Justice Alliance and Vermont Justice For All present this lecture and panel discussion on the origins and emergence of race data collection in the Vermont justice system. Panel one will discuss the early days of voluntary data collection by four agencies in Chittenden County and State Police. The second panel will discuss our current state and the proposed legislative approaches in data collection in the justice system for the future. H.284 is recommended for review prior to attending. Representative Colburn, Professor Stephanie Seguino and Christine Longmore, Wand Hines and Skyler Nash are confirmed. We’re excited to release the Race Traffic Stop Dashboard during this meeting.

About Vermont Racial Justice Alliance:
The Vermont Racial Justice Alliance is established to address racial justice in Vermont. We will first use of our collective strengths and voices to implement policy. It is our intent that this policy will positively impact Vermont on a Statewide basis. It is the intent that the policy will address systems and processes that surround the institutionalized as well as overt discriminatory components of racism in Vermont. The Alliance will work collaboratively to develop strategy and allocate resources to ensure the implementation of these policies. Additional objectives (if any) will be discussed and agreed upon by the Alliance. Together, we are working to advance and defend policies that promote racial justice. These policies will seek to address racial justice in the areas of housing, education, employment, health services and economic development and the criminal justice system.
