Culture, Power & Difference in the Middle Grades
Middle grades educators tend to focus on the collective developmental needs of students without also acknowledging the cultural needs of young adolescents from marginalized communities. In this talk, Assistant Professor of Education Kathleen Brinegar will discuss her discoveries as a co-researcher in a recent review of literature on cultural responsiveness in middle-level education. The talk will describe the conceptual framework the researchers developed and applied to examine the literature and identify conceptual gaps that the field must address to better serve the cultural needs of young adolescents.
